The flagship business of the USD 5-billion-plus Shapoorji Pallonji Group, Shapoorji Pallonji Engineering & Construction (SP E&C) was established as a distinct entity in 2014, under the Shapoorji Pallonji And Company Private Limited banner.

The company has come a long way since SP Construction Pvt Ltd was set up in 1943 by the then promoter Shapoorji Seth. With modest beginnings, building Mumbai’s Malabar Hill Reservoir in 1887 – the family’s construction business grew from building bungalows, apartments and bustling corporate offices of the city to building large industrial townships across India over the next century.

A breakthrough for SP E&C came in 1971 when Shapoorji’s son Pallonji Mistry arrived in Muscat to build the palace for the Sultan of Oman. Emboldened by the enthusiastic response in the Middle East, the division expanded its operations internationally.

Within India, SP E&C undertook iconic projects across the country from its headquarters in Mumbai – such as the Oberoi Towers, the new RBI building in Mumbai and the LIC building in Delhi. In 2000, SP E&C spread its wings and set up regional offices in Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad and today, SP E&C boasts of a pan-India presence.

In 2004, SP E&C entered the procurement arena and transformed into an end-to-end construction solutions provider. In 2006, a separate business, SP EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) was established. Today, SP E&C operates across four main verticals – commercial, industrial, residential and specialized.
